Aston Boxing Club

Aston Boxing Club

Aston Boxing club.  The gym is inscribed with Owen Murran's achievments.  A professional world bantamweight champion who was active in the 30's and 40's.

Pre 1960’s: boxing for adults in Birmingham mainly revolved around inner city pubs such as The Hobsmoor, The Railway Club, The Custard House and The Garrison. Landolords would regulate the fights, the public would come and go and go as they pleased and there were opportunities for fighters to make a name for themslevlves

Other clubs were formed in large companies such as, Lucas, Austin Rover Worsley. These were ABA affiliated and competition shows were set up. During the 60’s, 70’ 80’s as car companies closed so did the boxing clubs.
